MY WEB SITE
I want to create a site containing recipes for some of the classic cocktails. Unlike the sites in my analysis, my site will be easy to navigate listing cocktails under their appropriate category.  I am aiming for a simple classic design aesthetic with a 1940-50's glamour look. I feel this look goes in hand with the classic cocktails content of the site.

After viewing many tutorials and experimenting with different programs I have decided to use Blogger as a host for my site. I found That the templates were a lot easier to manipulate than some of the other host sites. Having used Blogger before also makes it easier as this is my first time attempting to edit the HTML and CSS codes. Having previous experience with Blogger means that I am not learning everything from scratch and can focus on developing my skills with the coding. I am aware that there are many limitations with Blogger however I am enjoying the challenge of working around these problems to ultimately create a site that I am happy with.

THE FINAL SITE

Personally I found that neither of these two sites were very successful. Both have home pages that appear rather unorganised and make navigation difficult. Both of these sites are intended to be cocktail recipe databases, however actually finding where the recipes are located on each of the sites is quite difficult. I doubt the average person seeking cocktail information would Spend very much time with these sites before getting frustrated and searching elsewhere.

Supercocktails.com is more organised than cocktails.com having a list of some categories on the side, however they are not that clearly layed out. One good feature of the 2 sites is that there is a search option however this would only be of value if you already knew the names of the cocktails.

The biggest problem I find with the two sites is that they are open for anyone to post recipies therefore there are ofter conflicting postings of the one cocktail. Popular cocktails like the martini for example had many different recipies making it difficult to know which one to select.

Help, I Hate My Job!

The idea for our web site is to create a place where employees can seek advice about their job. It will be an open forum where people can ask questions about a particular industry or their rights at work to ultimately gain the help they need to be happy in their job.

Web Site Research: These are some sites we have looked at which deal with a similar issue:
http://www.ratemyjob.org/
http://rateyourjob-rateyourboss.com/
http://www.ratemyemployer.ca/

We were originally thinking that to make our site different we could create a local site just for people working in businesses around Hobart. As well as having an advice forum we were also considering having a ratings system in place where people could rate businesses based on different criteria e.g wages, work conditions, hours. From here the site would generate the current top 5 and bottom 5 places of employment.

This idea however, has raised many issues of liability. Ultimately companies are not going to be impressed if they are slandered or their reputation is put on the line, especially large corporations with the money to easily sue a small web site.

REFORMED IDEA
We have created a proposal for a web site which is directed at Tasmanian employees seeking advice about issues within the workplace. The site is designed to be an open forum where people can ask or answer questions, give advice or vent in relation to workplace issues. The forum will operate according to a strict disclaimer which will be outlined on the site. The site will provide advertising from local employment agencies such as Steps and Career One. It will also provide direct links to their web sites as well as other helpful web sites such as Workplace Standards where employees can gain professional and legal advice.
This initial proposal is intended to be a local site purely for Tasmanian employees however it has the potential expand into a national site.
